What it mean to be strategic?

The word " Strategy" came from the original Greek word " Strategos", which means " General".

Strategy involves planning and predicting. A good strategy will guide daily business decisions toward some predetermined and desired end. All of the activities involved in panning need to occur with a clear understanding of a target market and what that target market values.

So, we could say, "Being Strategic" is all about having a goal, knowing your audience or market, and then planning and predicting the potential results of various actions you might take.

Being strategic means thinking about what could happen in the future and coming up with plans to either increase or decrease the odds of that results, depending on your goal.

What will happen when "Strategic" vs. "Operational"?
This two words are tossed around in the business world fairly frequently. "Strategic" is generally used to refer to activities  undertaken by leaders; "Operational" is generally used to refer to activities undertaken by front-line staff.
  • Strategic = Long-range; Operational= day to day.
  • Strategic = Dreaming; Operational = doing.
  • Strategic decisions impact the ability of a company or business to achieve its core mission and guiding vision; operational decisions impact progress toward accomplishing specific tasks.
A strategic plan is a long-rang vision or dream created by senior management designed to assist the business in achieving its overall mission. The strategic plan indicates where you want your business to go and serves as the foundation for the development and implementation of operational plans what will ensure that you get there.

A strategic plan offers direction for the organization, division, or department based on mission and goals that are far-reaching. Operational plans provide the details of how these goals will be achieved based on specific things that owners or employees of the business will do to make the strategies happen.

Operational plan are narrow and more specific than strategic plans. They support the strategic plan and outline specific action steps that will be taken.
